Gentleman Jack is a British historical drama television series based on the extensive personal diaries of landowner Anne Lister, who lived in Halifax during the 19th century. The series written and created by Sally Wainwright is set during the regency era of the 1830s, highlighting in particular Lister’s relationship with her family, the townsfolk of Halifax and most importantly her liaison with local heiress Ann Walker. The series premiered in April and May of 2019 in the US and U.K. respectively, and has (so far) run for two seasons. A critical darling amongst viewers and pundits alike, the show features the wonderful acting talent of Suranne Jones, Sophie Rundle, Gemma Jones, Gemma Whelan and Timothy West.
